Can you give us some of the music you listen to while making your books and/or whilst you have down time.

Hello! Sure!

Usually when I’m working, I listen to music that’s more upbeat to keep me going: Animal Collective, Art of Noise, Black Bear, Bombay Bicycle Club, Born Ruffians, The Dirty Projectors, Jay Jay Pistolet, Local Natives, The Lumineers, M. Ward, The Maccabees, Magic Numbers, Modest Mouse, Passion Pit, Phoenix, Pomegranates, The Shins, Stornoway, Strange Talk, Tune-yards, Vampire Weekend, The Walkmen, The Wombats, etc.

When I have downtime or am doing something more, I suppose, laid back such as writing letters, replying to e-mails, etc. I listen to all of the above quietly or I listen to: A.A. Bondy, The Album Leaf, Beach House, Camera Obscura, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Daughter, The Decemberists, Explosions in the Sky, Fleet Foxes, Helios, Lauren Elle/Moral Circus, Lykke Li, Page France, Sleeping at Last, Stars, Sufjan Stevens, Ugly Casanova, Warpaint, Wilco, etc.

The list goes on and on and on and on. But it’s kind of separated. I also frequently listen to mixed CD’s pen pals have made me or outgoing mixed CD’s that I make others.

Record Store Day | photos taken by: Amy Edwards

I’ve been enjoying lately sharing photos of my loved ones — particularly, photos I don’t particularly know are being taken — catching moments of endearment; the first embrace of friends meeting for the first time, good conversations shared and likewise, this.

God bless the universe for bringing me home.

I will always appreciate that my studio & bedroom face west.

Spent the day with the lovely Antonio and Codi Ann, discussing everything from the internet presence to dream weddings to why we make art.

Good, good day. Lovin’ this photograph of Antonio & I; one of the very few I have, if any!

“I know it’s hard to see me, darlin’ / let your eyes adjust”
The entire surprise was pre-planned and simultaneously, each detail unraveled within surprises slowly and quickly at the same time. My heart was swelling every mile I drove and upon arrival, my chest felt peaked. I sat third row as I heard her voice for the first time in real-time. Her singing nearly shattered my heart and put it all back together at the same time. She sang, eyes closed, full of heart, completely unknowing.
During an intermission of sorts, Al pointed out to me where she was standing and I didn’t know what to do. My feet wouldn’t move ‘til my mind sort of stumbled me forward. I moved towards her, through a crowd and found myself standing about eight feet away from her, almost waiting. She was speaking with someone and glanced at me. About to start talking again, her eyes shot back towards me and lit up. She took four steps backwards, in shock, and burst into tears, into laughter, in complete and utter disbelief. I stood amazed and stunned — even though I’ve had weeks to mull this scenario over again and again in my head — my eyes hot and my stomach warm. Within a sort of colliding embrace, I was held by arms I feel I’ve known all this time.
I wrote in my sketchbook last night that it is these beautiful, remarkable, unexplainable happenings that make this big, lifelong adventure worth living. And I reminded myself that it is with love for others that you will be okay.

I got this beauty in the mail today. Ends the postcard with, “What makes you feel alive? Are you wringing your days dry? Here’s to trying.”

I will never not get complete joy and satisfaction from strangers and their compassion and willingness to reach out and connect. It’s things like this that remind me the world is small and friends can be made all over the world by means of a postcard.

Pullin’ up my hair and getting ready for a big ‘ol work day in the studio. So many exciting things going on around here; I can’t wait to share!

Tonight I finally set aside some time to read the March edition of “What’s Mine Is Yours” by @codiann_thomsen. This lady never fails to amaze me with anything she does and I will be forever grateful for our friendship and forever grateful for the use of my photos throughout this book. My friends are the coolest.

You and I went to high school together, but we never really talked. One of your posts popped up on my dash one day, and all I could do was sit, gape-mouthed, at how small the world is. I think you're amazing; you're so talented and kind, and I honestly with you all the happiness in the world. Please don't stop doing what you love. <3

Oh my goodness, I wish that I could explain to you the smile that this put on my face. The world is very small; I can’t even imagine who this is but I’m sure I’d grin ear-to-ear if you ever shared with me your name. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking a moment and reaching out to me to tell me this. You’ve absolutely made my night. I hope all is well with you and that you are just as happy, dear.

Hello, hello! I want to see all of your wonderful faces in other places, too.
